Here are some red flags and some advertising claims made by others that we (and probably you) frequently read:

"We use an ingredient approved by the FDA for hair growth."

This statement refers to minoxidil. As you are probably aware, for most men minoxidil alone is not enough to regrow hair. And, it is ESPECIALLY not enough when there is very little in the product that you are buying. Beware of products that pre-mix minoxidil into their topical solution. First, pre-mixing minoxidil is illegal as minoxidil is an over-the-counter (OTC) drug and must be treated as such and packaged separately in an FDA approved manner. As important, you have no way of verifying the amount of minoxidil that you are actually getting. A pre-mixed product could have as little as 0.01% minoxidil (a trace amount), not nearly enough to aid in promoting hair growth.

One company selling a topical hair restoration product went so far as to use the before and after photo of a gentleman who had a hair transplant in between!

Blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and reducing the buildup of DHT in hair follicles is crucial to growing hair.
