What is DHT?

Excessive DHT can cause hair loss.

DHT, short for dihydrotestosterone is produced naturally in the body when the enzyme 5-alpha reductase (5-AR) converts the body's own testosterone into DHT.  This can lead to hair loss.

Does DHT Lead to Hair Loss?

Yes, hair loss can result when excess DHT exists.  Excessive DHT can cause hair shafts to narrow, producing progressively finer hairs with each new growth cycle until eventually the DHT causes hair loss.

Your overall levels of testosterone may be normal. But the activity of 5-AR may be greater than normal. This may result in increased amounts of DHT in your hair follicles and eventually lead to hair loss.

What can I do about it?
